Which needles do I need to re-constitute and give InterVax BCG vaccine?
PHE has received reports that on occasion, incorrect needles are being used to reconstitute and administer BCG vaccine. In order to avoid vaccine wastage and extract the maximum number of doses from the ampoule, PHE recommends using a 21G needle to reconstitute and draw up BCG vaccine.
For the administration of BCG vaccine by intra-dermal injection, the correct needle to use is a short bevelled 26G 10mm (0.45mm × 10mm) needle for each individual patient.
