Librarian support for ward rounds

Librarians' presence at ward rounds or handover meetings can help integrate evidence based practice with patient care. We currently attend ward rounds with the following teams

  • ICU (Intensive Care Unit)
  • MAU (Medical Assessment Unit)
  • Medicine for Older People
  • NSIC (National Spinal Injury Centre)
  • Paediatrics

This video from Wirral Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust explains how a similar service works and how it can benefit healthcare professionals and quality of care.

Journal club support

Clinical Outreach Librarians can support your journal club by:

  • Recommending sources for locating new evidence
  • Searching for a paper to discuss
  • Offering general advice on running a successful journal club
  • Giving short presentations on locating and appraising evidence including basic statistical concepts

Please contact the clinical outreach librarians for more information

Pop-up libraries

At a pop up library, healthcare staff can visit a temporary library stand on or near the ward and:

  • Find out about the library services and online resources
  • Register for an NHS Open Athens account
  • Join the library
  • Browse a small selection of books
  • Obtain advice on finding information

Please contact the clinical outreach librarians for more information.
